Nature and natural environments are supportive for relaxation and wellbeing on its own terms by providing a space for restoration and inner balance in distance to our everyday artificual influences. Also, nature and natural environments can be a source of inspiration, creativity and vivid activity. Growing up in nature or spending much time in nature cultivates a sense of emotional connection and can be a source of environmental beneficial concern and commitment. Also, natural environments and experiences - big and small - can be teachers of profound truths about our ourselves and our lives and even the functioning of our environments - if only we look carefully: 'You can observe a lot by just watching' (Yogi Berra). Nature has a lot to offer to enrich our lives.
Albert Einstein noted: Look deep into nature, and then you will understand everything better.
To look very deep and below our concepts requires yet another approach to nature. And this approach is to practice mindfulness-based meditation in nature, in natural environments. It combines all the benefits mentioned before, yet differs in the sense that it cultivates the skill of letting our prejudice and conceptual pre-occupation rest for a while to then perceive the experiences in and around us increasingly directly and less filtered. This allows for deeper insights into the every changing and volatile nature of nature and also of ourselves - and can allow for a strong sense of connectedness, vastness and peace to arise.
