Starting in the year 2002, Hendrik studied forest sciences at Dresden University, Germany, with research stays in Canada, Ecuador and Sweden, investigating the role of forests and vegetation
dynamics for climate change and its mitigation. For his doctoral and post-doctoral studies Hendrik conducted research in the field of forest restoration at Freiburg University in Germany; he was
actively contributing to the graduate school "Environment, Society and Global Change". Inspired by his private studies in Buddhist psychology and meditation with teachers from India and Nepal,
Hendrik sincerely wondered what we could learn from these ancient traditions for our modern challenges such as climate change and other social and environmental issues and the mind-sets that
Bringing together his professional and private interests, Hendrik initiated the seminar "Linking Mind and Environmental Sustainability" at the Faculty of Environment and Natural Resources at Freiburg University in 2016. Since 2018, Hendrik also trains as a teacher for "Mindfulness in Schools" (MiSP, London) and for Mindfulness-Based-Stress-Reduction (MBSR, Bangor University). He currently works as a freelance scientist, trainer and writer. In late 2018, Hendrik launched the interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary MindEnvironment Project seeking to join science, practice and education at the crossroads of sustainabilty, mindfulness and psycholgy.
